DARBHANGA🇮🇳
Darbhanga district was formed on 1 January 185. Darbhanga is situated in 25.63 - 25′.27 North and 85.80 - 7.25 in the East. It has Madhubani in the north, Samastipur in the south, Saharsa in the east and Sitamarhi and Muzaffarpur districts in the west. The geographical area of this district is 2249.929 kilometers. Presently this district is divided into 18 blocks / zones under three subdivisions.According to Vedic sources, the Videha branch of the Aryans traveled from the Saraswati coast towards Sadanira (Gandak) in the east under the protection of fire and established the Videha kingdom. In the name of King Mithi of Videha, this region came to be called Mithila. In the Ramayana period, a king of Mithila who was called Janaka was the daughter of Sirdhvaj Janaka. [1] At the end of the Videha kingdom, this region became part of the Vaishali republic. After this it was a part of the great empire of the Maurya, Sunga, Kanva and Gupta rulers of Magadha. In the 13th century, during the Muslim ruler of West Bengal, Haji Shamsuddin Ilyas, the Mithila and Tirhut regions were divided. The northern part, which included the northern part of Madhubani, Darbhanga and Samastipur, was under the Oyenwar king of Sugauna, Kameshwar Singh. The Oyenwar kings are known to promote art, culture and literature. The region gained fame with the writings of great scholars like Kumaril Bhatt, Mandan Mishra, Gadadhar Pandit, Shankar, Vachaspati Mishra, Vidyapati, Nagarjuna etc. Dev Singh, the father of Oinwar king Shiv Singh, founded Devkuli near Laheriasarai. After Shiv Singh, Padmasinh, Harisingh, Narasimhadeva, Dhirsingh, Bhairavsingh, Rambhadra, Lakshminath, Kamsanarayana were the kings. Gold and silver coins issued by Shiv Singh and Bhairav Singh are a good source of history and knowledge here.
Darbhanga city was the capital of Darbhanga Raj in the 17th century. In 185 AD, the British government subdivided Darbhanga Sadar and Darbhanga city became a municipal body in 16 AD. [2] It remained with Tirhut until it became an independent district in 185 AD. After the formation of Tirhut division in 1907, it was removed from Patna division and included in Tirhut. After independence, in 1982, Darbhanga was given divisional status and Madhubani and Samastipur were kept under it.
